HOTEL SAVANT, based in New York City, explores the livid, the uncertain, the magical and sublime: the seminal ideologies of history and mythology and their impact on contemporary performance. Helmed by Artistic Director John Jahnke, they are committed to mounting both original and rarely performed works that correlate to present day topics.
Through Jahnke's guidance they have developed work at BAM Next Wave The Park Avenue Armory, The Watermill Center, Abrons Art Center, The Orchard Project, The Public Theater, The Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Art on Air, Performance Space 122, 3LD Art and Technology Center, Chashama and Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions, among others, and have numerous Henry Hewes Design nominations for Set and Production Design. Jahnke has also created work for Hotel Savant as a fellow at The MacDowell Colony, The Hermitage Artist Retreat, The Orchard Project, and Yaddo. He is the Head of Institutional Relations at Chashama, and has served as a producer in the Department of Media and Performance Art and MoMA. He is a former opera and ballet student with a visual arts degree from the California Institute of the Arts Fine Arts program.
